This is one of the 4 coloured drawing I had to make for the final exam of my illustration class, I worked on it during all the school year. I'll post the other 3 as soon as I can. I should have worked more on it, on the shadows etc but I think it's pretty good as well.
The assignment consisted of making 7-8 illustration for a fake children's book, the subject was about some characters who for a reason enter a world where everything is giant compared to them, or they become very small etc etc for a reason. Each student should create a story based on this subject, and then he/she had to create the sketches of the characters table, the animals table, the journal table, the mean of transport, the map of their journey, and 3 or 4 action scenes. Then the student had to colour just 4 of all the illustrations, 2 with watercolours, 2 with liquid acrylics.
This is one of my action scenes, where the 2 characters meet the Toad King. My story consisted in these 2 children (Nicolò and Matilde, brother and sister) who find a table game named 'the pond of the Toad King', they open it and they magically enter in the game. This game is made of stages where they meet other animals (a dragonfly, a spider, a fish) and they have to exchange some object in order to obtain some others which they will use in the next stage. The last stage is the Toad King stage, they have to take it's sceptre jewel to finish the game. (hope I did explain it well... it was a little difficult to me to explain it in english ^^'.
The illustration is made with liquid acrylics...I've never used them and I think the result is not bad after all!
